Overview
The American Heart Association's (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. The course covers basic life support, PALS, and ACLS skills.
The ACLS Provider course is divided into three parts: Part 1 is the didactic portion, which covers the material in the ACLS provider manual; Part 2 is the skills practice session, in which students practice the ACLS skills with an AHA instructor; and Part 3 is the skills test, in which students must demonstrate their proficiency in the ACLS skills.
After successfully completing the ACLS Provider course, students will be able to:
- Recognize and manage respiratory and cardiac emergencies
- Perform CPR and use an AED
- Use ACLS drugs and understand their indications and contraindications
- Recognize and manage acute coronary syndromes
- Recognize and manage stroke
- Implement therapeutic hypothermia after cardiac arrest
