Overview
The American Heart Association's "Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition Stabilization (PEARS) Instructor" course is designed to train instructors to teach the PEARS course to laypeople. The PEARS course is a skills-based course that focuses on the recognition and stabilization of critically ill or injured infants and children. The course is intended for use by laypeople who may find themselves in a situation where they need to care for an infant or child prior to the arrival of professional medical help. The course covers a wide range of topics, including assessment and management of airway, breathing, and circulation problems; shock; and trauma. The course is taught over the course of two days, and includes both didactic and hands-on components. Upon completion of the course, instructors should be able to teach the PEARS course to laypeople and provide them with the skills they need to care for critically ill or injured infants and children.
